Yes. A properly installed ecogrid (covered with a wearing layer of sand or fine aggregate) is standard in modern equestrian centers. It prevents hooves from “sinking” into mud and ensures stable support during movement.
For horses, the best solution is to fill the grid with fine aggregate, then spread a layer of approximately 5-10 cm of washed sand (the so-called wearing layer). This allows water to drain vertically while preventing the sand from mixing with the native soil.
